Want Results? Start With Just One Clear Behavior

Sample Client List

When a team isn’t performing the way you want, it’s tempting to try to fix everything at once. Set 10 new goals. Launch fancy new tools. Drastically change the workflow. Add a few trainings for good measure.

But here’s the catch: when you focus on everything, people don’t know where to start.

The result? Paralysis. Confusion. Frustration.

Here’s a better way forward:

Pick one clear, observable behavior to improve—and stick with it.

Let’s say you lead a safety team, and you’ve had a spike in hand injuries on the floor. You tell your crew, “We need to be safer out there.” But what does “be safer” mean?

You might mean:

  • Wearing gloves consistently

  • Reporting near misses

  • Using proper hand placement when operating machinery

Different people will interpret that message differently. So instead, say:

“Gloves must be worn at all times when handling sharp materials. No exceptions.”

That’s a behavior you can track. It’s binary—done or not done. People know what’s expected. And that gives you a launchpad.

Once that behavior is clear, you can:

  • Observe it happening

  • Reinforce it

  • Provide feedback

  • Watch the results improve

Pinpointing one specific behavior gives your team clarity. And clarity gives them confidence. You can always shape, refine, and build from there.

Want momentum? Focus your team on one behavior they can see, do, and succeed at—and celebrate it when they do.
